Chris RenshawChris Renshaw’s love for anything wild and adventurous came from a deep rooted attachment to the African continent. It all started with tales from a mother who was brought up in Kenya, and stories from a father who hitchhiked from London to Johannesburg, in South Africa. Both parents had an adventurous spirit and as such, travelled throughout Africa. Consequent family holidays and forays into game parks and reserves instilled in him, at a very young age, a fascination and passion for the bushveld. It was an obvious choice for Chris to choose Zoology as his honors degree; and shortly after graduating his lifelong dream of becoming a wildlife guide was realized. He first began guiding at with the world renowned group, CCAfrica, (today known as &Beyond) and within 18 months was promoted to Assistant Head Guide. This position covered everything from entertaining and enthralling guests, training, mentoring new rangers and performing the general tasks that a major safari camp needs.

Chris then decided that to truly grasp and understand the needs and expectations guests anticipate from a luxury safari experience, he had to travel to where most safari guests came from. This led to a sabbatical in Europe. With a backpack, a travel book, and most importantly, a sense of adventure, he set off. He returned a few months later more worldly and enlightened and certainly with a firm belief that the safari industry was what he was destined to do. Chris also managed to find the time to obtain a Masters degree in Zoology. He felt that understanding wildlife and all that this entails would maximise his knowledge and be an incredible tool that would help relate animal behaviour to guests whilst guiding.

Chris’ guiding and travel experience has enabled him now to truly understand what luxury lodges can offer in Africa. With the combination of a practical and scientific background, mixed with a naughty, mischievious yet professional nature, Chris possesses the ideal qualities to lead your safari and guide you on a African experience, that you will never forget.

Chris has recently been awarded the coveted 2015 Africa Geographic photographer of the year award. He will also be appearing in numerous documentaries and wildlife television series over the coming year on the worldwide nature based satellite television network.

“An incredible safari has many aspects to it. If you have someone there with you that has been there before, or knows what to expect, it opens doors to experiences that otherwise would not have been possible. I will make sure that you get out of your comfort zone, to explore and experience situations, areas and scenarios that you would have otherwise not have seen. Guiding is about facilitating experiences, letting the situation play out, and then subtly getting involved to maximise the reward and sheer enjoyment of a moment. Sometimes we all need a slight nudge or a small word to understand or get involved in something incredible. This changes all the time, but to have someone with you with the knowledge, patience and understanding of what the African continent is about, can make the difference between a good safari and a life changing one. Living in the moment, to create a memory that lasts forever
