Mara Plains Camp is a sanctuary for resident wildlife species, including many of the Maasai Mara’s 300 bird species.

After dark, larger mammals frequent the camp, and Maasai warriors escort guests to and from their rooms. Hippos snorting and leopards barking often provide the night’s chorus.

Mara Plains Camp showcases Africa’s magnificent wildlife. We believe in keeping the safari experience intimate and personal, so there is no set camp schedule or mealtimes.

The guest’s preferences and wildlife opportunities of the moment tailor the day’s activities and dining arrangements. With complimentary professional cameras and lenses and high-quality binoculars, it is impossible not to see and capture the region’s incredible wildlife scenes.

The Olare Motorgi Conservancy lies on the northern boundary of Kenya’s Maasai Mara National Reserve. Guests of Mara Plains Camp and its 2-bedroomed Jahazi Suite at Mara Plains are the only guests to have access to wildlife viewing in this private conservancy, the Reserve, as well as the Mara North Conservancy!

Building Bridges: Connect communities with access to healthcare, education and markets

The rains in the Masai Mara cause fast-flowing rivers, often cutting off communities from schools, clinics, markets and more. In the rainy season, children would miss school because the water levels were too dangerous to cross, setting them back in their education. In partnership with Bridging the Gap Africa, Great Plains is building safe and durable bridges, creating a reliable access point across the rivers. The impact of our Building Bridges initiative has been more significant than we imagined, with communities now having year-round access to schools, healthcare, and markets.
