WALKING SAFARI

Exploring the bush on foot is the perfect way to discover all the things, big and small, that make Africa’s remote, pristine wilderness areas so special.

For those wanting a walking safari experience, Great Plains Conservation’s Duba Explorers Camp, Selinda Explorers Camp in Botswana, Tembo Plains Camp in Zimbabwe and ol Donyo Lodge in Kenya are great options.

From Duba Explorers Camp and Selinda Explorers Camp, you can enjoy guided bush walks and canoe opportunities daily (water levels permitting). At the same time, from ol Donyo Lodge, you can hike through Hemingway’s ‘green hills of Africa’ or explore the plains at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro on a walk, by mountain bike or from the back of a horse.

The private Sapi Reserve is a perfect walking destination for those staying at Tembo Plains Camp. Wide-open flood plains and open areas present ideal opportunities for guests to head out with their guides on either full or half-day walking experiences. It is here that the elephants often stretch up on their hind legs as they reach for the favourite Sausage Tree fruit.

For those guests not wanting to get out on foot for a full or half-day, shorter guided bushwalks are possible from most of our safari camps. In some areas walking activities may have a higher age limit.
