Kids on Safari

In our youth, we were all explorers of some kind, even if just in our suburban garden. We explored, discovered, and might have even gotten lost, but we always returned home more enlightened.

‘Taking your kids on safari in Africa allows you to rekindle that magic. Our Young Explorers safari experience is intentionally curated to be personalised around your children. We keep the magic alive with every activity. A family safari is a perfect way to bond, reconnect and create unforgettable memories together.’

– Dereck Joubert, CEO of Great Plains Conservation

Bringing your kids on safari is a magical family experience. Safaris stimulate all their senses, open a whole new world, and create life-long memories.

Kids on safari with Great Plains Conservation are known as Young Explorers. Their safari experience fosters a never-ending opportunity for imagination, fun, and pure joy and awe.

We understand that not all children are the same, so our activities are uniquely personalised to suit each child’s desires.

Kids on safari are not only offered the excitement of spotting new animals and learning about them, but our incredible guides also impart their knowledge of animal tracking and bush survival skills. This new knowledge is sure to be a favourite dinner-time discussion.

The Great Plains Young Explorers Program blends fun with conservation learning when on family safaris.

Each child receives a Young Explorers pack full of everything fun needed to become a Conservation Ambassador on arrival.

This pack includes an activity book with exciting information, including animal tracks, Setswana or Kiswahili vocabulary, facts on flora, fauna, and stars, word games, and a safari journal. Great Plains guides and staff seamlessly modify the level of activities according to age and interests. There is NO set program or itinerary. Your kids on safari need to have fun, too. Experiences are curated around their likes and dislikes.

Like any vacation, family safaris are a time to connect, laugh, chat, explore, and enjoy those special moments together.

There is something extra special about sharing the first sighting of a favourite animal together as a family and reliving it around the evening’s fire. The freedom and purity of Africa are the ideal way to escape every day and bond with the land and each other.
