Welcome to Okavango Explorers Camp

“In the far south of the private Selinda Reserve, where the Selinda Spillway touches Botswana’s Okavango Delta, Beverly and I first set up our camp in the leadwood trees.

We were possibly the first people there, maybe on the trail of Livingstone and Selous.

From this Okavango Delta safari camp’s location, Beverly and I have paddled and walked the entire river for months. We are all explorers, and each of us has that explorer’s heart and soul. Okavango Explorers Camp is your base, to unlock exciting wildlife discoveries. “

The Camp

The Selinda Reserve in northern Botswana is a prime predator and elephant habitat. The location of this Okavango Delta safari camp has been handpicked for its access to some of the highest concentrations of wildlife found in the region. Lions, leopards and wild dogs hunt these parts regularly. There are good densities of giraffes, buffalo, and exciting, rare antelopes like roans, sables, and eland.

At the peak of the dry season in late September, the Selinda Reserve is home to over 9,000 elephants concentrated along this river system. Okavango Explorers Camp is the place for elephant lovers in the dry season.

There are also phenomenal bird-watching opportunities for those looking for some ‘lifers’.

Lasting Impact

Great Plains Female Rangers: Empowering Women on the Front Line of Conservation

The Female Ranger Program invites women from local communities to embark on a 12-month training program equipping them with a plethora of skills, including data collection, first aid, computer skills, driving skills, and more. They are then hired and deployed in our concessions to monitor and manage the biodiversity. Great Plains’ Female Rangers also offers opportunities to shift gender stereotypes, empower vulnerable women, and establish strong female role models for young girls. The long-term conservation impact of this project is equally powerful; female rangers will help foster the community buy-in necessary to preserve Africa’s most precious biodiversity.
