Lemala Osonjoi Lodge will open its doors to guests on the 15th July 2025. Situated on a hill just beyond the Ngorongoro Crater rim, Lemala Osonjoi will offer a luxurious and immersive experience. The lodge will feature 16 elegantly furnished suites, including two interconnecting family suites, all with large picture windows that provide breathtaking views over the surrounding forest canopy. We love that, as nights on the Ngorongoro Crater rim can get quite cool, little luxuries like slow-burning wood stoves, warm winter-weight duvets, and hot water bottles will be provided to ensure that guests stay cozy and comfortable.
Guests will also get to enjoy international and African-inspired cuisine in dining areas with panoramic views, unwind at the well-stocked bar, and indulge in relaxing spa treatments. Activities will include game viewing in the Ngorongoro Crater and nearby Lake Manyara National Park.
Lemala Osonjoi is also one of the very few properties in Ngorongoro that will be permitted to provide private lunches on the Crater floor—a rare privilege that allows guests to spend a full day on safari in total comfort.

The name, carefully chosen by the staff, represents the multiple benefits that Lemala seeks to bring to the land and people of East Africa. This reflects the core values of Lemala, focusing on sustainability, cultural respect, and positive impact on the local communities and environment.
Grays Eden, in Maun, Botswana, is a luxury boutique hotel on the tranquil banks of the Thamalakane River, just 10 minutes from Maun Airport, offering an elegant retreat before or after an Okavango Delta safari. Guests stay in spacious villas or thatched cottages, some with fireplaces, private patios, and river views. The on-site restaurant serves gourmet cuisine with fine wines, complemented by a serene pool and in-room spa treatments. This month’s Inside Scoop highlights my recent stay at Tanda Tula in the Greater Northern Kruger in South Africa.
I can confidently say that, without a doubt, Tanda Tula ticks all the boxes and more. From its humble tented beginnings to the beautifully designed safari lodge it has become today, it truly encompasses everything one would expect to experience on a safari in South Africa—and then some.
While the decor, design elements, colors, food, and location are all top-notch and absolutely gorgeous, the ultimate magic ingredient is the incredible staff who find a way into your heart.
The saying, “I arrived a stranger and left a friend,” has never held more true for me.
I loved engaging with the Tanda Tula “family”, but they were also finely tuned to when I needed quiet time by the pool, a top-up of my drink (it was literally the hottest summer in South Africa while I was there), more ice, or the offer the perfect cortado to get the exact caffeine kick required before the afternoon game drive.
One of my favourite dining experiences was having lunch in the nest. I could have happily sat there all day, watching a lazy bunch of buffalo trying to cool off in the waterhole right in front of me, listening to the the grunts and groans of a hippo, watching the arrival of a massive herd of elephants excitedly rushing to drink, countless birds, and a naughty pair of eyes from the monkey in the tree watching me as I popped delicious tapas into my mouth. The entertainment around the waterhole was just a prelude to the storybook wildlife sightings I was lucky enough to experience… probably some of the best I have ever had!
Tanda Tula holds a special place in my heart for many reasons, and I truly urge you to consider this gem of a lodge for guests seeking a South African safari that is luxurious, warm, kind, wild and just all-around exceptional.
