Something Amazing Every Day in Africa – Wildlife Wednesday

As I watched the short video assembled from hours of this month’s wildlife sightings submissions from the guides and guests at Great Plains this week, I felt a tinge of FOMO because quite a few of the scenes and images were those that I had not seen before.

Some, like the baby giraffe wobbling to its feet, I would have loved to include in our upcoming film on the Maasai Mara.

Across the portfolio, it is all happening in October. I am reminded that this month is really one of our most productive times of the year for wildlife sightings and experiences.

These ’snapshots’ are always a good indication of productivity in finding amazing wildlife scenes. As I look back, I think I can answer the enduring question we are asked: When is the best time to visit Africa?

The real answer is “Every day is a good time – throughout the year!”

Some days, at Duba Plains, the wildlife sightings are hopping; other times, elephants swim across the lagoon in front of Zarafa Camp; and when no one is looking, a leopard wanders across our walk bridge at Duba Explorers Camp.

Something amazing is happening every day of the year in one of our camps. Each day is different as well.

But I hope the only consistency is in our fine meals, happy staff, and engaged guides; the excitement of the wildlife around us lies in their variety, with splashes of colour, and that feeling of exploring the unknown each dawn, as these images and video clips show this week.

We would like to thank Marius Coetzee for the use of his photography in some of the imagery featured here.
