Mid-season madness!
Our guides don’t know which way to point their lenses, as you can see in this week’s assembly of this month’s wildlife sightings.
For some reason, there are babies everywhere. Left and right, lion cubs and painted dog pups are poking their heads out of lairs and dens. Baby elephants are wobbling into life.
This (I hate to say it) circle of life, from cubs to the steady throb of the arriving migration that crossed into Kenya last week, continues steadily, and I often sit and wonder about how small I am in this influence of rhythm, as it beats perpetually no matter what.
Today’s video, all of which is from our guides, provides a snapshot, not a guarantee, of what this season offers to our guests and friends at Great Plains, across three critical African landscapes (delta, river, grassland; the nodes of our portfolio from Botswana to Zimbabwe to Kenya).
There was a final farewell when a younger bull elephant visited the fallen icon, One Ton, at ol Donyo Lodge; a moving end… and yet across the plains, a newborn took his first steps. His footprints, not much bigger than my hand, will grow to be much larger than two dinner plates side by side, and if we do our jobs, they will be seen as he pads back and forth across these volcanic sands well into the 2080s!
There is no better time to visit, but then I say that every day as I wake up and gaze out across the plains of Africa, with a steaming cup warming my hands before we go out and search for our own images, adventures, journeys and stories of the day.
